A forgotten Hungarian grape, brought back to life.
Laska 2024 from Szentesi Pince is the kind of wine Beyond Tokaj was created to uncover: rare, characterful and almost impossible to encounter on the average UK wine shelf. Expect ripe plum, clove and warm spice, balanced by fresh acidity and gentle tannins.
There is a sense of discovery in every glass. Laska is one of Hungary’s historic grape varieties revived by József Szentesi, turning a nearly forgotten piece of Hungarian wine culture into something you can open at the dinner table today.
The story behind Laska
Szentesi describes Laska as intensely fruity, with raspberry character, deep colour, good acidity and ageing potential. This 2024 vintage spent one year in wooden barrel, adding warmth and spice while keeping the wine fresh and approachable.
At the table
Made for slow dinners and generous food. Try it with duck, roast pork, charcuterie or paprika-rich Hungarian dishes. Serve at around 14–16°C.
Why Beyond Tokaj chose it
Because wine should sometimes surprise you. Laska combines everything we want to share about Hungarian wine: an indigenous grape, a remarkable revival story and a flavour that stands on its own. It is not here because it is familiar — it is here because it deserves to be discovered.
